Surf Plate Diamond Sheet with Backing Plate

Hi, I originally ordered this plate thinking it'd be good for fixing damaged knives that f&f bring me. But after a trial with one of my knives, I knew it would be better as a flattening stone, I use it on the coarser stone's, below 1000grit and it works very well. Even after I've had it around a year with at least weekly use, it still has plenty of bight. The aluminium base plate is solid and has grooved sides that makes it easy to control and feels comfortable. Overall a quality product. Thanks guy's

These are excellent diamond plates. Mine came dead flat and beautifully packaged. The quality on these is such it becomes obvious why they cost as much as they do. Very quick cutting, and the diamonds are replaceable when it inevitably wears out.

Mine (50 micron) also does a good job of flattening finer grit water stones, though I'd imagine you'd be much better served with one of the dedicated lapping plates sold here.

All in all very happy with my purchase. Two thumbs up!

This is one of those products that exudes quality as soon as you take it out of the packaging. Even the box itself is nicely done. The base is thick, with a nice heft and handy grooves machined in the sides and at just shy of 9 1/2 " long by about 2 1/3 " wide, these offer plenty of real estate for flattening/sharpening of tools. Came dead flat and having a replaceable diamond sheet is just icing on the cake.

For flattening plane blades/chisels, I would definitely go for the 110 or 250 micron. Despite this the wave pattern does seem to help it cut, as I purchased the least coarse 50 micron and it was still fairing pretty well against an old plane blade compared to my Atoma plate. I bet it would be excellent as well for knives.

It also works ok as a lapping plate for fine waterstones if you have nothing else, but there's alot of suction and you'd be way better off with Hap's own dedicated lapping plate. Either way I'm happy I splurged for one of these! They are expensive sure but once in hand and in use it's obvious where your money is going. Prior to purchasing I inquired about this product and Mr. Stanley himself was more than courteous and respectful when I reached out for info on these stones. Customer support like that is hard to come by! You get what you pay for, and in this case it's a top quality product backed by a great company and a genuinely good guy. That's well worth every cent and I'll be looking at purchasing more Nano Hone products in the future!

If you’ve ever spent hours setting up a set of chisels or plane irons like I have, you’ll understand why these stones have become essential. I bought all three surf stones and it’s helped me achieve a flat surface in a fraction of the time that a typical diamond plate does (Trend, etc). Can’t recommend them enough.
